Dear Highlands,

God’s word says, “Honor your father and mother”–which is the first commandment with a promise”  Ephesians 6:2 

Tonight at Bristol and Tomorrow at all our campuses we are honoring our moms with a Mothers Day Celebration!  

I know all our moms would want us in God’s house this weekend.  Just by coming you will be honoring them.  If your mom is living give her a call, send a card, do something special for her.  God used her to bring you into the world.  Thank God for all her efforts to love you.  There are no perfect moms, so forgive her if she let you down.  I know God’s word will be a source of strength and help, of encouragement and power for all the women this weekend, for all of us!  Invite someone to come to church with you!

Dear Highlanders,

IN 2002 HIGHLANDS FELLOWSHIP EXPERIENCED THE MOST POWERFUL MOVE OF GOD IN OUR HISTORY! What happened in that spiritual growth campaign CALLED 40 DAYS OF PURPOSE propelled us from where we were to where we are today. Words are not enough to adequately state what God did as we focused on His purposes AND HOW THAT CONTINUES TO IMPACT OUR LIVES AND THE WORLD.

TODAY, RIGHT NOW, what is happening in www.40ditw.com, has surpassed those amazing days in 2002!  I tell people when they ask, “do you have ever revivals”, I say Highlands has been in what I call an almost 19 year revival;  IN BETWEEN HAVE BEEN SUPERNATURAL BURSTS OF GOD!  It’s breath taking and one driven by Christ and His purposes.  In the old revivals I use to attend and some I preached early in my minstry,  you would have great meetings but over time the energy would wear off and the church would settle back into their routine.  A move driven by God is not dependant upon human energy but God’s power.  It lasts!  40 DAYS IN THE WORD IS A MOVE DRIVEN BY GOD!

I DON’T SAY THIS LIGHTLY! What God is doing in this 40 Days In The Word spiritual growth campaign is preparing Highlands Fellowship for growth and depth that will make our past look like a prologue to God’s amazing story in this world. When I say church, HIGHLANDS, I’m talking about ALL OF YOU WHO ARE FOLLOWING JESUS.  I’m also talking about friends and loved ones, neighbors and co-workerds who will find God’s plan for their lives that are not even at Highlands yet but will be because of what God is doing through you, His people.

P.S.  So proud of the risks all of you are taking for Jesus.  Right now over 10 #40ditw small groups are meeting at Emory and Henry College with close to 100 students because one freshman was willing to take the risk for Jesus and make it happen!  That same student has now started a #40ditw small group at Virginia HIghlands Community College!  So proud of our Small Groups Director,  Daniel Thomas,  the guy is amazing!  He’s also still leading the clean up effort through our small groups for Glade Spring almost a year after the devasting tornado. Highlanders want to be the first on the ground when there is trouble and the last to leave only after the need has been met!  So proud of all of you!  So proud of all our hosts taking risks in Jesus name!  You will be blessed beyond your wildest dreams!  Lastly, so proud of all of you Highlanders!  Without your faith and love and commitment to God’s purposes none of this would be happening!  Your faith makes it possible for God to act! You are amazing,  I love you all!

Dear Highlanders!

TOMORROW, I’ll share one of the MOST IMPORTANT messages I’ve ever delivered to you, the church.

I want you to be there and bring your friends for this HISTORY-MAKING weekend.

Together we’ve seen God do amazing, only God could do it kind of things, but He’s about to give us MORE than we could ever imagine.

As I shared in my New Years blog, www.jimmiedavidson.com, we are letting go of the past and moving forward toward GOD’S PURPOSE and PLAN.  We are at a major TRANSITION POINT for EXPONENTIAL GROWTH and the FAVOR of the LORD.  I’m looking forward to taking the journey and seeing God do MORE in our lives, in us His church and in the world than we could ever imagine.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (NLT)  “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”

PRAY FOR ME that the words I share will be exactly what JESUS wants to say!

P.S.  The Purpose Lead Team of Highlands just returned from a 3 day planning retreat and personally I’ve never seen God show up like He did this past week.  We prayed, we called on the Lord and He heard us.  We worked ourselves to total exhaustion night and day.  At the retreat God gave us the series and the message themes for each weekend for all of 2012 and January 2013!!!  These are the most exciting set of series for your lives and personal growth that I’ve ever seen for a single year at Highlands, EVER! Get ready for God to show up in your life for GOOD in ways you never imagined!

The minutes are ticking away toward a New Year so I wanted to get a head start on helping you look forward to what I believe can be YOUR GREATEST AND BLESSED YEAR EVER!

“I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3:13b-14 (NLT)

One of the things I love is Jesus gives us a blank sheet, a new start not just every year but every day!

If you want to win the prize and achieve God’s purpose for your life this year, then your going to have to let go of the past.  For some of you that means bad memories, failed attempts, broken relationships, missed opportunities, or whatever made last year one you would love to forget.  It also means we have to let go of those things that were great.  Yes, success can actually hinder God’s progress in your life.  The Lord is not telling us to never remember the great things He has done because those things encourage us to trust Him more BUT to linger and look at that only, would impede what He wants to do NEXT.  Even good things can obstruct what God wants to do in your future.

Lots of churches and believers reach milestones and try to camp out for the rest of their days reliving and redoing what they did before.  When that happens the clock is ticking on your eventual spiritual decline.  Abiding in Jesus means being wherever He is and that requires movement.  One time Jesus was asked to stay in a certain place but his response was“Early the next morning Jesus went out to an isolated place. The crowds searched everywhere for him, and when they finally found him, they begged him not to leave them. But he replied, “I must preach the Good News of the Kingdom of God in other towns, too, because that is why I was sent.” Luke 4:42-43 (NLT) God is on the move in this world.  The Lord will lead us places we have never been before individually and as a church.  There are plans he has for us that will be much different than anything we’ve done in our past 17 years.  Count on it!  This is why it’s never dull or boring at Highlands, it’s never boring following Christ, we keep letting God lead!!!  We keep looking forward!

God has MORE in store.  I love God’s word; all the promises of God are yes in Christ Jesus!  It’s all about following Him and His plan for our lives and His church!  It’s all about a love relationship with Christ!!!  I’m so glad I get to serve a God who doesn’t camp out in yesterday but every day offers me the huge opportunity to walk with Him in this world and see Him do things only He can do.  He’s offering that to you in 2012!  The same God we read about in the scriptures is the same God calling you and I to follow Him into the future!

Highlanders, 2011 was a record breaking year with us seeing large numbers of people accepting Jesus, more people taking their purposes classes than ever before and together we had our largest yearly average attendance in the 17 year history of Highlands Fellowship!  Wow!  You guys made history! Let me tell you why that happened.  You let God do it through you! You were faithful in following Christ!  He is very proud of you but you haven’t seen anything yet!

Keep following Jesus.  Keep carrying out His purposes!  Keep bringing them into the MEMBERSHIP of His family, keep building them up to Christ like MATURITY, keep training them for their MINISTRY in the church, keep sending them out on their life MISSION in the world and keep doing it all to MAGNIFY God’s name for His Global Glory.  Don’t be afraid to take huge risks!  Don’t be afraid to get out on the limb because that’s where the fruit is!  I guarantee you if we all keep looking forward to what lies ahead, running the race God’s has laid out for us, God will do above and beyond all that we could ever ask or think, more than we could even dream of. Ephesians 3:20-21

The last weekend in January we will launch with thousands of other churches throughout the world, “40 Days In The Word”.  40 Days In The Word is a spiritual growth campaign to deepen your understanding of God’s word.  We will help you learn how to love, learn and live out God’s word!  You will be taught how to study and understand God’s word without having to depend on someone else to do it all for you!  I believe this will be our greatest spiritual growth campaign ever at Highlands!  We are going deeper!  I know we all want to better understand and apply God’s word!  This is the moment God is taking us to new levels!

Start praying with me now and let’s get ready for what lies ahead!  God has some amazing things to teach and reveal to you in His word.  He has a great future for you, your family and friends!  You’re going to hear God speak to you!  Get ready!  Start inviting! Make plans to attend a small group.  Commit to being here on the weekends to hear from the Lord as you are taught God’s word and what it means.  Give yourself fully to Christ and His plans for your life in this coming year!

So let’s get going!  Let go of the past, confess to Jesus and move on with Christ.  Jesus died not only to forgive us our sins but also to move us forward in becoming all He made us to be for God’s glory!

I love all of you, asking God to help you do all He asks you to do, praying and believing this year will be your GREATEST and most BLESSED ever!

For lots of people this is the season for discouragement and depression. I hope this passage will begin to change all that. Think about what God is saying. Let it sink in. Live out this truth and watch the dark clouds lift. In fact say it out loud as you read it. No one cares about you more than Him. Jesus proved it. Let Him prove it to you. No one knows more about you than Him. Embrace the Lord and His purpose for your life. Say yes to Him. In Christ He’s already saying yes to you!

Psalm 139  Selected (NLT) “O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.
